Welcome to the Materials for Tissue Engineering International Symposium.

Presently, there is a major need for human tissues and organs to reduce the ever growing organ donor waiting lists. A breakthrough solution for this problem would be to fabricate artificial human tissue and organs. Tissue engineering seeks to regenerate damaged tissue by growing cells from a patient on porous scaffold materials. These biomaterials are used as templates to guide the growth of new tissue to obtain 3D engineered constructs that can be used for a diverse range of applications, not only for tissue or organ regeneration but also for drug testing.

According to Grand View Research, Inc., the global tissue engineering market is expected to reach 9,773 million euros by 2022. This fact means a great opportunity for companies and research institutions to move into this rapidly growing research field.

Don’t miss your opportunity to attend this one-day symposium, where world experts will describe the functional requirements of materials used in tissue engineering and highlight their recent and ongoing research on this exciting topic. I am happy to announce that thanks to our sponsors BC Materials and Bizkaia Talent, the registration is totally free of charge.

We will be live-tweeting at #MTEsymposium

I hope to see you there.

Eneko Axpe, Ph.D. (University of Cambridge)

Head of the Organising Committee of the Materials for Tissue Engineering International Symposium
