Bizkaia’s university talent collaborates with companies from the province to improve their employer branding

- 128 students from the three Basque universities have participated in a new edition of Skillathon with a view to helping Basque companies to strengthen their positioning as attractive employers for members of Generation Z.
This sixth edition of Skillathon, organised by Bizkaia Talent within the framework of the Talentia Skills programme, once again converted the Perrera in Bilbao into a meeting point between the most promising young talent and cutting-edge companies in Bizkaia. Over the course of three working days, held on the 8th, 9th and 10th April, a total of 128 university students with diverse academic profiles worked on the design of employer branding strategies aimed at attracting Generation Z members, based on the challenges proposed by Kaizen Institute and Laboral Kutxa, who shared with the students their contexts and needs as employers.
The challenge posed this year by the two companies consisted of redefining their value proposals as employers, with the aim of aligning their corporate cultures, their messages and their internal policies with the expectations of today’s youth talent. To this end, the students reflected on key aspects such as working conditions, the organization culture, opportunities for professional growth or the feeling of belonging.
Organised into multidisciplinary teams and guided by design thinking methodology, the participants developed creative solutions which were then presented directly to the human resources staff of the two companies.
This initiative not only provided the students with a unique opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real world context, but it also enabled them to develop basic transversal skills such as teamwork, effective communication and innovation. At the same time, the companies received novel and enriching proposals, thought up directly by the people who represent the present and the future of the labour market.
