2008 Target: Munich
Being an industrial, economic and financial hub, Munich was chosen to host the first workshop of Bizkaia Talent’s ‘Talent Recruitment and Engagement in the Basque Country’ programme. Munich is the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria, and one of the industrial hubs of Europe. Its industrial fabric is extraordinarily innovative and variegated. Furthermore, it is the city preferred by the world’s leading insurance companies and the second banking centre in German, not to mention the headquarters of top business groups like Allianz, BMW or Siemens.
The workshop held in Munich on 15 November 2008 was aimed at recruiting and engaging highly qualified professionals in the automotive, telecommunications and aeronautical sectors for the Historical Territory of Bizkaia and the Basque Country at large. The choice of sectors had to do with the large number of Basque and Spanish expats working in this city.
The event drew 56 highly qualified professionals living in Munich, working for such companies as BMW, MTU, Valeo, Eurocopter, Ciao Surveys, Infineon Technologies, Faurecia, MAN, Qimonda, EPO, ISKO, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, TESIS DYNAware, Phoenix Solar, ILF Consulting, Maier, Eads, Eurospace, Siemens, Audi and Denso.
After a presentation by the guest company CIE Automotive, the 56 participants were able to share experiences with the representatives of the Basque clusters and companies present at the event. This was followed by presentations from the automotive, telecommunications and aeronautics clusters (ACICAE, GAIA and HEGAN), discussing the current situation and potential of Bizkaia- and Euskadi-based companies in terms of highly qualified human assets.
Finally, there was a feedback session led by companies SENER, ITP and IDOM, whose representatives made contacts with the highly qualified professionals, discussing their return to Bizkaia or the Basque Country, or their involvement or engagement in projects carried out in the region.
The success of this first workshop encouraged Bizkaia Talent to organise similar events in other European cities.
