Many of you have heard us talking about the Triano mountains, and the importance of the Basque Country Mining in the development of our current economy and society in Bizkaia and Euskadi.
At last, we have organised a visit to this marvellous Mining Cultural Landscape, harshly transformed by an intense period of mining exploitations, being, nowadays, an amazing landscape, full of fascinating history.
To start up, we will visit Basque Country Mining Museum, located in Gallarta, to know countless testimonies as a proof of the importance of the Mining: calcination furnaces, railway lines, dump cars for transporting mineral, inclined planes and loading bay; but also, living places, offices, hospitals and, of course, mines. The exhibition includes pieces, tools, machinery and documents of the former iron mines.
It should be noted that this museum was constituted by former miners and iron workers, who consider, during the industry crisis, to recover those key elements as the essence of Bizkaia and were started being forgotten.
Afterwards, we will go to La Arboleda, old mining town where iron ore was extracted, and which has now been converted into a leisure and recreation area.
Finally, we will enjoy a local recipe/dish: ALUBIADA con Sacramentos (Red Beans with vegetables and pork[1])
