Urdaibai is a natural setting of outstanding beauty and diversity, this is why it was listed by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve in 1984. Its heart is the river Oka, whose source is in Monte Oiz and which flows out into an estuary at Mundaka, creating some spectacular wetlands that teem with life.
In this marvelous reserve, we can find the Madariaga Tower where the Basque Country Biodiversity Centre is.
This Biodiversity Centre has a permanent public participation area with the aim of explaining the essence and the functions of Biodiversity.
This is achieved by means of photographs, slides and interactive settings and on-site visits. The exhibition area is designed in a self-guided way, resorting to all necessary systems for its understanding in different languages.
Owing to this, we encourage you to join this activity. We will visit the Urdaibai marshland and will be guided through the wetlands for 2 hours. After that, we will visit the different exhibition spaces, access to the viewpoint on the Madariaga Tower, which offers a wonderful view. We can see Izaro Island, Laida beach.
After this 3 hour visit, we will have lunch at MD.
